===Robbie Williams .@staffsuni #Journalism graduate tells how he landed an interview with @robbiewilliams in #Staffs2015:
==============Broadcast Journalism graduate Jack proved that persistence pays off after travelling across Europe to interview Robbie Williams for his final year project.
Jack Walker, from Cheddleton, got the bug for Journalism when he won the Young Journalist of the Year competition run by Staffordshire University, when he was in sixth form.
The 21-year-old went on to study BA (Hons) Broadcast Journalism at the University and has graduated with a first-class degree.
Jack said: “I was just going to do a piece about Robbie's life and him being from Stoke - speak to his mum, his dad, his teachers. I never thought I'd actually speak to Robbie himself!”
After making some enquiries Jack flew to Barcelona where Robbie was performing.
“I knew it was going to cost me a bit of money but I thought I'd risk it to get this big break, which is what journalism is all about really.” explained Jack.
Jack managed to speak to Robbie's dad but didn't see the star himself. After being a given a free ticket for the singer's concert Jack returned home.
He wasn't put off however and signed up to fan forum where he spoke to Robbie during a live chat. After saying 'no' three times, Robbie finally agreed to an interview after discovering Jack was a fellow Port Vale supporter.
Jack travelled to Austria to meet the singer where he conducted an hour-long interview with Robbie.
“He was the nicest guy you could possibly meet. I even played FIFA with his band!” told Jack.
"I wasn't much of a fan before but I'd say I'm one of his biggest fans in the world now.”
Jack received top marks for the feature length documentary in which Robbie discusses growing up in Stoke and how he feels about his home town. Jack also received a certificate for outstanding achievement in Broadcast Journalism at his graduation.
“Studying Broadcast Journalism was definitely the right choice because it allowed me to cover everything from entertainment to sport to politics which probably gives me an advantage in getting a job.” said Jack.
Jack's hard work paid off and he is currently working for BBC Radio Stoke. He hopes his success will continue when he enters his radio feature for a BJTC (Broadcast Journalism Training Council) award. Contact
